Poetry #21 “Un-social” media

Celebrated with pomp and grandeur,
The role of social media in our lives.
Proud to be in this  colossal network,
Thrilled to be online to get high fives.

Quotes, videos, pictures, and messages,
Get rapidly exchanged as strings of bytes.
The glowing face in front of a lighted screen,
Is the chief cause of many sleepless nights.

Family members live under the same roof,
But each lost in his or her own wide world;
The number of likes, comments and follows,
Means more than a hug from a dearly loved.

TV nights used to work in kindred bonding,
Chattering about a movie or a TV show.
Nowadays programme snippets are an fb update,
With posts from known and unknown friends that follow.

Meetups and calls have lost their  charm,
With pings and pokes in their place.
The human touch is slowly disintegrating,
Going towards virtual friendships, pace by pace.

It’s ironical that I’m giving negative views on social media,
When I’m going to post the same as my  status;
Making it a vicious circle of a love-hate relationship,
Wondering how can I ever get out of this mess.
